Last week, a rare watermelon sold for $3,740.00 at an auction in Sapporo, Japan. wsj.com reports The Densuke  Watermelon  is highly prized for its texture, flavor, and unique appearance.  The Densuke has no stripes, is spherical in shape, and features a smooth, glossy black finish. It somewhat resembles a bowling ball.  It's grown only on the Japanese island  of Hokkaido.  Ironically, the recent price of nearly $4,000.00 is considered a disappointment and a sign economic hard times.  The high water mark for Densuke bidding was in the neighborhood of $8,100.00 in 2007.
