Which States Have The Smartest (And Dumbest) People?
Measuring human intelligence can be an iffy proposition. Critics argue IQ tests are inaccurate because of cultural, racial, and socio-economic bias. There's probably some merit to that, but they remain our best barometer. IQ scores in the US have been falling for several decades. Why? There are several hypotheses. Perhaps we're spending too much time staring at the screen of a phone, or tablet. Some would argue the least intelligent people are having the most children. A recent survey, published by inc.com, ranks the 50 US states by average IQ score. Guess what. Louisiana doesn't fare very well. The Bayou state ranks #49 overall, with an average IQ of 95.3. Who's number one? Massachussets, with an average IQ score of 104.3. The only state worse than Louisiana was Mississippi, with an average score of 94.2.
