What The Map Of Louisiana Should Really Look Like Will Shock You [Photo]

We all know that Louisiana's coastline is disappearing, and doing so at an alarming rate. In most of our day to day lives, we don't see exactly how dire our situation has become. But, if we were to start using a new, updated map of what Louisiana actually looks like, we, as well as the rest of the world would be in complete shock.

Now, I understand an article like this can tend to start a lot of debate. The guy who wrote the article "Louisiana Loses It's Boot" has a wealth of research and information about this, and I'll link you to his full article below.

Brett Anderson from medium.com has written and incredible and sobering article on the state of Louisiana's coastline and how most people are not truly aware of how emergent our situation is. Is it because no one really cares about Louisiana? No, it's because the map that is continuously used for Louisiana is outdated and misleading, and it doesn't show how much of Louisiana actually doesn't exist anymore or how much isn't habitable land.

According to the U.S.G.S., the state lost just under 1,900 square miles of land between 1932 and 2000. This is the rough equivalent of the entire state of Delaware dropping into the Gulf of Mexico, and the disappearing act has no closing date. If nothing is done to stop the hemorrhaging, the state predicts as much as another 1,750 square miles of land — an area larger than Rhode Island — will convert to water by 2064

So, what should a map of Louisiana really look like? You know, a map showing actual land that you can walk on and build houses?

We all know how important coastal restoration is for Louisiana. Thankfully there have been some improvements in recent years, but at this point we're still behind the proverbial 8 ball. After seeing this updated map, I think we can all agree we need to start doing everything we can. Fast.
