Tomorrow, Tuesday November 8, is a day that many people in Acadiana and across our country have been waiting for.

Tomorrow, we go to the polls to elect a president, a senator, two congressmen, local officials, and to vote "yes" or "no" on local issues along with six constitutional amendments.

You can get more information about your mock ballot by going to http://www.geauxvote.com.

The polls will be open from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. tomorrow.

There is no campaigning within 600 feet of any polling place.

Remember to bring identification with your picture on it, like a driver's license or a state I.D. which you can get for free from the Louisiana Office of Motor vehicles. If you do not provide an approved identification, you will have to take the time to fill out and sign affidavit in order to be able to vote.

You can bring a paper list or your electronic list on your phone into the voting booth with you. If you are visually impaired, you can get help in the voting booth. There are some exceptions, and those exceptions are as follows:

  • candidate in the election cannot assist a voter;
  • employer or employer's agent cannot assist an employee;
  • union agent cannot assist a union member
  • commissioner-in-charge; and
  • staff for a state residential facility cannot assist residents of their facility in voting

There are requirements for someone needing or planning to offer assistance to a voter on election day.

Remember, you only have three minutes in the voting booth to cast your ballot. Do not hit the "cast ballot" button until you are absolutely sure those are the choices you want. If you are unsure of something, or have a question, call out to a voting commissioner BEFORE YOU HIT THE "CAST BALLOT" BUTTON. You can't ask for help once you have left the voting booth.

There have been plenty of discussions about voter fraud and that "the election is rigged". If you think you see something on election day that is illegal, you can call the Secretary of State's Voter Fraud Hotline at 800.722.5305.
