The four-day festival has always been a favorite for so many in Acadiana, and when preparing to attend, you should be weather-aware. We've had some years when there wasn't a cloud in the sky, which called for a lot of sunscreen. On the other hand, we've had years when showers swept across the city, thus forcing you to find a way to stay dry.
This Spring has been very unique in Acadiana. We've had some very windy days, with storms, and we've gone several days without a cloud in the sky. So what can we expect for Festival International? Well, it's a mix of things.
KATC's Rob Perillo says that the festival may start on the wet side Wednesday, April 24th, as showers linger from the start of the week.
What Will The Be Like For Festival International
Then, as we get closer to the weekend, when many of the stages open, the rain chances begin to diminish, which should bring a mix of sun and clouds for Festival weekend in the downtown Lafayette District.
Temperatures in Downtown Lafayette will be in the 80s, but as we move through Festival weekend, we will be in the mid-to-upper 80s, so it could get warm.
We remind you, this is an extended forecast, and we will continue to monitor it in the days ahead. If there are any changes as we get closer to the opening night for Festival International, we will share the latest here and on this station's mobile app.
What To Bring to the Festival
So, if you are already planning to attend Festival International this year, plan to have rain gear in your bag, along with sunscreen and deodorant.
Also, if you have small kids, it's always a great idea to have them in a stroller or wagon, it makes walking through downtown much easier, and it's safer for your kids. And with temperatures above the 80-degree mark, make sure you and your kids have plenty to drink.
Lastly, a chair is a must if you plan to sit and enjoy the music on one of the many stages.
