The severe weather threat is forcing the St. Landry Parish School District to dismiss classes early today.

Superintendent Patrick Jenkins confirms to KPEL that the closures affect all schools and the central office.

According to a release sent by the school district and a post on the district's Facebook page, the early dismissals will be staggered across the district.

Students at SLATS, the alternative school, and at the trade schools will dismiss at noon. Students who ride the Opelousas High Biomed and MACA shuttle bus will dismiss at 12:30 p.m.

All high schools except for North Central will dismiss students at 12:45 p.m.  North Central will shut down at 1:15 p.m.

All head start centers will dismiss students at 1 p.m.

Palmetto Elementary, Opelousas Middle, and Creswell Middle Schools will dismiss at 1:15 p.m.  All other elementary and middle schools in the district will shut down at 1:25 p.m.

All administrative offices, including the central office in Opelousas, will close at 2:30 p.m.

The district did not say if the severe weather will affect tomorrow's school schedule.
