Two ladies of the City of Lafayette Aquatics swim team will be traveling to Indiana for the Olympic Team Trials which begin Saturday, June 15.

COLA Senior Coach Cameron Brandao says 18-year-old Marie Landreneau and 23-year-old Jillian Barczyk have both made it to the Olympic trials. This will be Barczyk's second visit to the Olympic Team Trials.

Landreneau was able to qualify earlier in June when she had a time of 2:00.29 in the 100m freestyle. Barczyk's has qualified in the following:

  • The 200m Freestyle
  • The 400m Freestyle
  • The 800m Freestyle

These qualifications are difficult to obtain as you consider this information from COLA,

As it stands, less than 0.5% of all registered USA Swimming athletes achieved an Olympic Trial qualifying time.

The USA Swimming Olympic Trials will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis which is the home of the Indianapolis Colts football team.

Marie Landreneau is a recent graduate of St. Thomas More. Barczyk is a graduate of the Class of 2024, University of Georgia Graduate.

The City of Lafayette Aquatics is a year-round swim club team. They have had multiple students receive swimming scholarships throughout the twenty years since the start of the program.

We will be keeping in contact with these ladies this weekend as they embark on their chance to qualify to make it onto the Olympic Team. If you would like to find out more about the swimming program in Lafayette, you can check out the Facebook page.
