Two people were killed after a head-on collision at around 6:30 Monday morning on Louisiana Highway 14 according to Louisiana State Police.

State Police Troop I Spokesman Trooper Thomas Gossen says that 29-year-old Kiristan Michelle Mitchell of Kaplan drove across the center line of Louisiana Highway 14 near Fore Road and slammed into 18-year-old Kalix James Broussard's car.

Both of these drivers were killed as a result of this morning's crash in Vermilion Parish.

Gossen says they are still investigating the crash to figure out why Mitchell's truck crossed into Broussard's lane of traffic at this curve in the road.

The trooper says neither Mitchell nor Broussard were wearing seat belts at the time the crash happened.

He adds that routine toxicology tests are pending.

There have been five deaths in three fatal crashes in the Troop I area since the start of 2020.
