Louisiana State Police have arrested the man they believe to be responsible for the hit-and-run death of Lon Lomas, who was killed while riding his bicycle on Hwy. 92.

State police Troop I spokesperson Brooks David said 42-year-old Fitzpatrick Doucette of Kaplan was arrested just after 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

Doucette is being charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, driving under suspension, and limitations on passing bicycles.

David said Doucette was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. Bond was not set as of Monday morning, according to jail records.

The 30-year-old Lomas was killed on Hwy. 92 near Mermentau Road early July 7 when he was allegedly hit by Doucette, police said.

An 11-mile memorial ride was held July 13.
