Tourism is big business in  Louisiana. It's actually a bigger business these days than in years past. Billy Nungesser, Lt. Governor and leader of Louisiana's tourism industry has an idea that might make one of the state's bigger tourist attractions even bigger and better.

Nungesser's plan is to designate part of the New Orleans French Quarter as a state park.

We could create a state park with park rangers on every corner, put a capitol budget together to fix every street with good lighting. Make it safer.

Nungesser's comments were reported by the Louisiana Radio Network. On the surface, it seems like a pretty good idea. The idea of making New Orleans safer for tourists does have a strong appeal. The only problem I see with Billy's idea is the same problem we have with everything else in the state, money.

In my opinion, it's going to be a tough conversation to have with a school teacher who deserves a raise or a student who was promised support with TOPS. I am sure the state could find a way to make the French Quarter State Park pay for itself and pay off a lot of hands that you know will be stuck out for a hand out in New Orleans.

Here's a better idea, how about we clean up Louisiana politics and Louisiana government before we start messing with something that isn't as broken as the leadership in this state is.
