A St. Landry Parish woman is being sought on alleged cruelty to animals charge stemming from a neglected animal on her property.

According to KLFY TV10, the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office issued an arrest warrant for the Port Barre woman after failing to establish contact with her about the situation.

The cruelty case involves a dog that was chained up on her property.

A concerned citizen took to social media to post about a dog that appeared to be neglected on property in St. Landry Parish. Someone who rescues pets investigated the post, found the dog, and brought it to a veterinary clinic, according to the post.

The dog, a Doberman Pinscher, was in very bad shape when it was found. Reports say that it was covered in parasites, including fleas and maggots, and was too weak to support itself, not even able to lift its head.

The dog did not survive.

KLFY reports that the property on which the dog was found abandoned had been occupied by 48-year-old Stacey Comeaux. When authorities attempted to contact her they discovered that she was out of state and would be returning on the 20th of August, 2022.

She was told to contact them upon her return to Louisiana.

On the afternoon of the 20th, authorities again tried to contact her in reference to the neglected dog but were unsuccessful in their attempts to reach her. It was at that point an arrest warrant was issued.

Authorities are looking for Comeaux and ask anyone with information about her whereabouts to call them at the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office at (337) 948-6516.
