Thomas Morstead, New Orleans Saints punter, is the title character in a new children’s book. The book is titled “The Middle School Rules of Thomas Morstead” and it is written by Sean Jensen. It is one of Jensen’s Middle School Rules series children’s books. Jensen said he knew Morstead would make a great character in this book because of the way he acted in defeat.

According to Nola.com, the story centers around Morstead’s childhood and upbringing in Texas. It focuses on the loved ones that supported him as a child when things didn’t go the way he wished they would. Morstead and Jensen’s biggest thing they want kids to take from the story is that even when things don’t go your way, you can always find a positive outcome.

When Morstead was a child, he was more focused on soccer than he was on football. But, when he was cut from the varsity soccer team in high school, it opened a whole new opportunity for him.  He said it was the only reason he played football for his senior year in high school. Which means, it was the best thing that ever happened for him. The book includes little stories about people who challenged and encouraged Morstead during his childhood to help build the character he has today. Jensen used a cartoon version of Morstead as a child kicking a football for the cover of the book.

If you would like to purchase the book, you can get it at Target stores by clicking here. Proceeds from the sales will benefit Thomas and Laura Morstead’s foundation, What You Give Will Grow. The foundation was founded in 2014 to help the New Orleans community and beyond, especially children battling cancer. They hold an annual ‘Prom of Hope’ for teenagers battling cancer and blood disorders. Their mission is not only to improve the lives of those in need but to also inspire others to join in spreading a spirit of giving.
