Saints’ Benjamin Watson Announces Retirement
I think Benjamin Watson is the best tight end the Saints have had in some time. They've had some good ones. Jeremy Shockey caught the go ahead touchdown in Super Bowl XLIV. Jimmy Graham went to Pro Bowls. Watson's not as athletic as Graham, but he's tougher & has better hands. Nobody ever accused Shockey of lacking toughness. Watson's mentally tougher, and a better locker room guy. The saints let the then 36 year old Watson leave in free agency 2 years ago. His replacement, Coby Fleener, was a bust, so the black & gold brought the veteran back. In his 15 year career, Watson has 528 receptions for 5,856 yards, and 44 touch downs. Watson's about to become a father for the 7th time. Here's hoping he celebrates with a Super Bowl championship.
