Royal Wedding to Cost Taxpayers 50 Million

Most British citizens didn’t get a coveted invitation to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding.  But whether they know it or not, they’ll be getting the royal couple a pretty swanky gift.  The nuptials are going to cost taxpayers nearly $50 million! On top of that, the declaration of April 29^th as a national holiday will cost the UK approximately $9.6 billion.  Kate’s parents will also be forking over the big bucks… who knew marrying into royalty would be so expensive?  The Middletons will cover the costs of the hotel suites, wedding gowns, bridesmaids’ dresses and honeymoon, totaling more than $160,000.  The bill from the Goring Hotel alone (where family and friends are staying) will cost upwards of $30,000!  And Kate’s bridal dresses, which have been the subject of much speculation, are thought to cost close to $50,000. On a related note, we still don’t know who’s designing Kate’s dress… but you can be sure it’s not going to come from Costco.
