Louisiana Ragin' Cajun softball head coach Gerry Glasco said Monday Alissa Dalton is the best shortstop he's ever coached in his career.

With the week she had on the softball diamond, it's easy to see why.

Dalton, a junior from Cypress Texas, batted 17 times in 4 games last week, batting .643 (9-for-14), reaching base a dozen times for a week-long .706 on base percentage.

Today, she was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week.

“Alissa has been working really hard, and is starting to understand her mental approach,” Louisiana Softball head coach Glasco said in a University press release. “In her at bat with the bases loaded in the series finale, she fouled off two or three pitches with two strikes, and because she’s becoming a smarter offensive player was able to make the adjustment for another clutch hit.”

It's Dalton's first SBC Player of the Week honor of the season, but the 7th for the Cajuns.

Pitcher Summer Ellyson has been named SBC Pitcher of the Week three times this season, while Kandra Lamb has earned the distinction once.

Raina O'Neal and Julie Rawls have each taken home SBC Player of the Week honors this season as well.
