"Bring home the bacon" and "grab the bull by the horns" might seem like harmless phrases to you, but PETA sees things a little differently.

The animal rights organization believes many of these common phrases "perpetuate violence towards animals" and should be replaced with more animal-friendly alternatives.

A recent post on PETA's website features animal-friendly idioms in hopes that teaching children to use animal-friendly language will cultivate positive relationships between all beings. Some of the alternative phrases include "spill the beans" instead of "let the cat out of the bag" and "hold the phone" instead of "hold your horses".

You can take a peek at even more animal-friendly phrases in PETA's post "Animal-Friendly Idioms That Your Students Will Love".
