Louisiana State Police officials say a woman has died after a crash happened very early Saturday morning, December 16 on Louisiana Highway 182 near Richmar Loop in St. Landry Parish.

According to Louisiana State Police Spokesman for Troop I Trooper Thomas Gossen, a woman was driving southbound on Louisiana Highway 182, and at the same time, a truck being driven by 41-year-old Joseph L. Richard of Church Point was driving in the opposite direction.

Gossen says that Richard's truck cross the center line of the roadway. He says 31-year-old Ledisha A. Roberts' vehicle was hit head-on by Richard's truck. They don't know at this point why Richard's truck crossed the roadway.

Roberts was not wearing a seat belt, and the St. Landry Parish Coroner pronounced her dead at the scene. Routine toxicology samples were taken from Roberts and were sent off for analysis.

Gossen says that Richard did give a breath sample to authorities, and they found him over the legal limit.

He was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on the following charges:

LA RS 14:32.1 Vehicular Homicide

LA RS 32:71 Driving Left of Center

LA RS 32:865 No Insurance

LA RS 32:295.1 Seatbelt Required

LA RS 32:415 Driving Under Suspension

The crash happened just after 2 o'clock Saturday morning.

Gossen says that Richard was not properly restrained and received minjor injuries. He also says that Richard's passenger, who was buckled up received on minor injuries as well.
