In a win for separation of church and state activists, the Oklahoma Supreme Court said that the presence of a monument featuring the Ten Commandments must be removed from Oklahoma State Capitol Grounds.

The monument was paid for by private donations, supported by the lawmakers of Oklahoma, and placed on Oklahoma State Capitol grounds in 2012.

Since then, according to KOCO, other groups have asked for space to erect a monument in recognition of their respective religions, including a Nevada Hindu leader, animal rights advocates, the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster and a group pushing for a Satan statue.

The Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled that the monument must come down because it was "use of a state property for the benefit of a religion", which is against the Oklahoma State Constitution.

What are your thoughts?  Do you think that separation of church and state is a good idea?  Do you think that our Founding Fathers had that idea wrong, and that this country should be ruled by one particular religion?  Chime in, and let us know your thoughts.
