New Orleans Hit By Possible Tornado

National Weather Service investigators will be surveying storm damage in New Orleans later today to find out if the Crescent City was struck by a tornado.

The Uptown section of town was struck particularly hard. Local TV stations are reporting that power lines are downed all across the neighborhood, putting residents and their homes in dangerous situations.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for the city around 2 a.m. Wednesday. According to WWL, the Superdome's weather station recorded winds as high as 62 miles per hour.

Entergy is reporting massive power outages across the city. The power company says at one point, more than 10,000 of its customers were without electricity. As of 6 a.m., that number is down to 2,200 people. Entergy says its crews are in the process of restoring power to its remaining affected customers.

If you are planning to go to New Orleans today for business or pleasure, be mindful of the situation in the city. In fact, it may be best to reschedule your plans for another day.
