In the last few weeks, we've heard the news of a Dave & Busters along with Small Sliders planning to open in Lafayette. Both of those businesses will open in the second phase of the Ambassador Town Center.

Now we're getting word that an independent Japanese hibachi grill restaurant has plans to open in the same shopping center.

According to the Acadiana Advocate, Tian Lei Tang owns the yet-to-be-named restaurant and it will be built next to where Small Sliders will be located near the intersection of Ambassador Caffery and Creek Farm Road.

Tang has operated restaurants for the last 30 years and currently runs Buffet City on Ambassador Caffery, a restaurant he opened in the late 1990s.

The new restaurant will feature a hibachi-style experience, also known as teppanyaki, where food is served over an open flame.

“There is a lot of growth and strong traffic counts along Ambassador,” Tang told the Acadiana Advocate. “We are excited to be breaking ground in an area that will continue to develop around us.”

The restaurant will include 12 hibachi tables, four of which will be in a private dining area. Tang says that chefs will prepare food in front of customers in an entertaining fashion. The restaurant will also feature a sushi bar, cocktail bar, and space to entertain large groups and host special events.

Construction on this new restaurant is expected to begin in October.

Expect more development on the vacant land between Costco and Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. That parcel of land is expected to be sold by the end of the year.

Other developments planned for the area include a Discount Tire location along with luxury apartments.
