New Charges Filed Against Trump in Mar-a-Lago Documents Case

New charges have been added against former President Donald Trump in the investigation of classified documents at the Mar-a-Lago resort. The charges appear to be related to the alleged removal or destruction of surveillance video. The filing also adds a 3rd defendant to the case: Mar-a-Lago maintenance chief Carlos de Oliveira. There are reports that de Oliveira was involved in moving some documents and had access to a confidential map of the property.

A spokesman for Trump released a statement to CNBC after the news broke this evening:

Trump spokesman Steven Cheung in a statement, said, “This is nothing more than a continued desperate and flailing attempt by the Biden Crime Family and their Department of Justice to harass President Trump and those around him.”

“Deranged Jack Smith knows that they have no case and is casting about for any way to salvage their illegal witch hunt and to get someone other than Donald Trump to run against Crooked Joe Biden,” Cheung said.

Previously Trump and aid Walt Nauta were charged by Special Counsel Jack Smith and the Justice Department. The 38-count indictment includes charges related to conspiring to hide classified documents at his Florida estate from government investigators.
