Morganza Spillway: Worth The Drive?
UPDATE: It has been announced that the opening of the spillway will not be open to public viewing.
The Corps of Engineers has announced that they will be opening the Morganza Spillway to alleviate the swollen Mississippi River. Is it worth the drive to see it?
The spillway was opened last in 2011 and, judging by the news clips, hundreds of people were on hand to witness its opening.
What, in your opinion, is the draw? Why are people planning on being there, lawn chair under their backside, to watch the opening?
