Monday Night Football Crew Had To Act Fast

 I was watching ESPN this morning before work & Frank Gifford was telling the story of ABC's Monday Night Football broadcast team broke the news of John Lennon's murder. The crew in the production truck outside Miami's Orange Bowl informed Gifford & partner Fran Tarkenton, but not Howard Cosell.

 Producers were concerned about Cosell's reaction because he & Lennon were personal friends.   When Cosell was finally informed the team had less than 60 seconds to decide what to do during a commercial timeout as New England prepared to kick a last-second field goal . Cosell chose to make the announcement himself.
