The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s office is one step closer to more funding after a unanimous vote by the Lafayette City-Parish Council. Last night’s regularly-scheduled meeting was one of the last for the current consolidated council. An introductory ordinance authored by Councilmember Kenneth Boudreaux containing several proposals was approved. The final vote on the measures, which would increase funding to the LPSO for juvenile detention and inmate housing, is set for December 17th.

The vote came on the same day Sheriff Mark Garber announced downsizing measures that would affect 42 employees within the department. Garber said the reorganization of the department will not affect offenders’ incarceration status.
