Many residents across South Louisiana went to social media on Tuesday to ask what the white material was showing up in their yards.

Some thought it may have been spider webs in the atmosphere, and according to our friend at KATC TV-3, Rob Perillo, it may be.

The white stringy substance or material has been landing on lawns, fences, rooftops, and even on some people's pets in Acadiana. One person reported on social media that her dog ate the unknown white stingy substance in her yard.

So what is it that many are finding in their yard, Rob initially said it was, "The silk by-product of cane processing."

However, the local meteorologist would later come back to social media and explain that the white stringy material in your yard may be spider webs and is part of spider web ballooning.

After reviewing several photos and videos, that is what led Rob to stand corrected while addressing what everyone in Acadiana seemed to be talking about Tuesday evening.

Here's another look at what has been in the sky above.
