(Lafayette, Louisiana) - Temperatures are warming up and there's not much rain in the forecast, thus many are outdoors across South Louisiana, and if you've been outdoors, you may have noticed a haze in the air.

If you haven't been swatting at mosquitoes or love bugs while enjoying a cold beverage on the patio, you may have noticed that there's a slight haze in Acadiana, and it's not your eyes going bad.

Many have reported a haze, with a slight smell to it, in the region, and if you're one of those, you are correct, we have been having hazy conditions in Acadiana.

So, what's causing the sky to appear smoky? It's a wildfire far away, but winds are carrying the smoke across much of the Gulf Coast.

A large wildfire in Mexico is raging, and the smoke from the fire is being picked up by strong winds, and now the smoke has reached our area.

While there may be a slight smell to it, the smoke in the atmosphere does enhance the sunrises and sunsets in Acadiana.

However, if you have allergies, this isn't the news you want to hear, but the haze from the wildfires should ease up in the days ahead.

While we are talking weather and atmosphere here, let me note that summer-like temperatures are here, and you will notice it even more so as we get into the weekend.

In one forecast, I heard the dreaded words "Heat Index," so brace yourself for warmer days and nights in Acadiana, it's back.
