Landry’s Seafood House Closing in Henderson

An Atchafalaya Basin landmark is closing its doors. According to sign on the front door of Landry's Seafood House in Henderson the restaurant is closing its doors, permanently. For me, Landry's was the place we'd eat either on the way to or on the way home from LSU football games.

I liked the fact that the restaurant offered a great selection of what I considered to be authentic South Louisiana recipes. They also had stuff on the menu that tourists could understand and order too. The service was always nice and friendly and the fact that there was a store full of souvenirs and artwork always made a stop at Landry's more than just a stop for food.

Henderson Mayor Sherbin Collette told KATC that the owners of the business hope to sell the popular seafood restaurant. Collette, according to the the KATC post, seems to want the buyer to have a strong connection to South Louisiana. I can't say that I would argue that point.

Many businesses along I-10 in the Henderson area have reported struggles as of recent times. The majority of those struggles seem to have started with all the road construction in the area.

The Henderson exit off of I-10 has seen the construction of roundabouts exacerbated by flooding in recent months. There's also the whole coronavirus pandemic that has thrown many businesses, not just in Henderson, for an economic loop as well.

I can say I will miss my stops at Landry's Seafood House in Henderson. I do hope that the restaurant can reopen and thrive. As far as I'm concerned we can never have enough places to get good South Louisiana cooking.
