Tragedy struck Tuesday morning as Louisiana State Police officials were called out to investigate a fatal crash that took the life of a Lafayette television reporter's father.

According to State Police Spokeswoman Trooper First Class Peggy Bourque, the crash happened on Highway 90 in Acadia Parish. Gilbert Price of Rayne was driving west on the roadway, and Billy Kritzer of Youngsville was eastbound.

Kritzer crossed the centerline of the roadway, smashing into Price's truck. Bourque says this is preliminary information, and their investigation is ongoing.

Price was killed, and Kritzer received severe injuries. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Bourque says Price was not wearing a seat belt, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bourque says routine blood samples were taken from Price and Kritzer and will be submitted to a lab for toxicology tests.

The man from Rayne who was killed was the father of KLFY-TV 10 reporter Kye Price, according to the television station.

Louisiana State Police officials, as they do following every crash, have the following reminders for Louisiana drivers:

Never let distractions interfere with your driving

Never drive impaired

Never drive when you are fatigued

Follow all traffic laws

Always make sure everyone in the vehicle is buckled up
