Lafayette Police: Beware Of ‘Jugging’
What's "Jugging"? It's a new wave of theft that's sweeping the hub city. The Lafayette police department warns bank customers to beware when conducting cash transactions.
The thief watches an individual obtain cash, then follows the victim to his or her destination. The perpetrator then breaks into the victim's vehicle. Customers of Chase Bank are a particularly popular target.
Incidents have been reported following transactions at the following Chase locations: 2910 Johnston Street, 3930 W. Congress Street, 1233 Kaliste Saloom Road, and 5233 Johnston Street.
Customers of the Iberia Bank at 5121 Johnston and Gulf Coast Bank at 3911 Ambassador Caffery Parkway have also been targeted.
Police caution the public to be aware of surroundings when conducting cash transactions. They also advise not leaving the cash in your vehicle. Persons with information are asked to call Crimestoppers at 232-TIPS, or the Lafayette police department.
