(99.9 KTDY, Lafayette) - Several vehicles were involved in a fatal crash on Johnston Street at E. Broussard Tuesday morning and officials say three people have died at the scene following the crash. One person in a third vehicle was taken to a hospital for treatment.

According to Lafayette Police Department Senior Corporal Ashley Wood, a spokesperson for the department, both northbound and southbound Johnston Street at E. Broussard is closed due to this crash.

In regards to the multi-vehicle crash at Johnston and E Broussard, Traffic Investigators have confirmed that three occupants in two vehicles have tragically succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The driver of the third vehicle sustained minor to moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The identities of the deceased are being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

Utility crews are currently on-site to repair an electrical pole that was damaged during the collision. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes until further notice.

The investigation is still ongoing and further details will be released as they become available.

 

Officials are asking for drivers to take alternate routes to get to their destinations until the scene has been cleared.

The crash happened around 5:15 a.m. in the 6800 block of Johnston Street. Investigators with the Lafayette Police Department along with other first responders are on the scene this morning.

Wood says it is going to take several hours to work this crash.
