A free food event will be held on Tuesday for anyone in Acadiana who is truly in need.

The next several days will be very intense for Lafayette and the surrounding areas of Acadiana as Hurricane Francine with come ashore in our area. Food insecurity is a huge problem in Acadiana, for those who don't have enough money they can't simply run to the store to stock up on needed items.

Second Harvest Food Bank will be having an Emergency Food Distribution event will will be held at their location at 215 East Pinhook Road.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. Tuesday, September 10.

Natalie Jayroe, CEO and President of Second Harvest Food Bank says,

"Disasters can strike at any moment, leaving communities reeling and in desperate need of support. Whether it's a hurricane, a pandemic, or a government shutdown, our communities rely on us to ensure their immediate food needs are met.

Who Is the Food For?

It's an emergency food distribution for at-risk families and those facing issues with being able to get food. This is also for those who may need for food and other supplies in the coming days after the storm.

September 10 is also Hunger Action Day. While the whole month of September is designated as Hunger Action Month, when you donate to Feeding America tomorrow, your donation will be matched by Pampered Chef.

If you would like to donate straight to Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana you can visit https://no-hunger.org/.

This event will last as long as supplies do.
