According to the Washington Times, Louisiana Health Officials destroyed 1,600 pounds of venison that had been donated to "Hunters for the Hungry", an organization that collects meat from hunters to be used at homeless shelters. Officials cut open each package of meat and put it in a dumpster, then poured bleach on it.

Officials at the Shreveport-Bossier City shelter said that up to 3,200 meals were destroyed that day.

Hunters for the Hungry takes place around the state each year each fall, as hunters make room in their freezers for the next season's hunt.  In Lafayette, the donation day is held at Cajun Field.

Health officials claim that venison is not safe for people to eat.  Hmmph.  Tell that to the thousands of Cajuns who serve it frequently!
