Details on Severe Lafayette Chain-Reaction Crash Between Vehicles, Pedestrian Pumping Gas

New details have emerged about the major crash that led to the closure of a significant stretch of Verot School Road in Lafayette earlier today. According to the Lafayette Police Department's initial investigation, the incident involved a series of collisions triggered by a single driver's attempt to change lanes.

According to Sergeant Robin Green with Lafayette Police, the crash began when Vehicle #1, traveling northbound in the outside lane of the 300 block of Verot School Road, attempted to switch to the inside lane. During this maneuver, Vehicle #1 clipped the rear driver-side corner of Vehicle #2. The impact caused Vehicle #1 to veer off the road, striking a roadside sign before continuing to collide with Vehicle #3, which was parked beside a gas station fuel pump.

The owner of Vehicle #3, identified as Pedestrian #1, had just finished refueling and was standing by his vehicle when it was hit. The collision pushed the parked vehicle into him, throwing him against the fuel pump. Fortunately, while the pedestrian sustained several major injuries, none were life-threatening.

Following the crash, the driver of Vehicle #1 was taken to the Lafayette Police Department, where he provided a breath sample showing no alcohol in his system (0.000g%BAC). Despite this, the driver was cited for reckless driving.

After being closed during the investigation, all roadways have now reopened.
