Baton Rouge, Louisiana) - Louisiana ranks among the states with the highest hit-and-run accidents, with New Orleans ranking 14th nationwide, making it the deadliest city in the state for hit-and-run incidents.

Not only that, Louisiana also faces some of the highest auto insurance rates in the country. Insurance companies consider hit-and-run accidents part of the overall risk pool that determines insurance premiums, so insurers charge more to cover potential losses.

Hit-and-run drivers typically flee the scene because they don't have auto insurance, which can have hefty consequences. Driving without insurance in Louisiana can result in up to $1,000 in fines, the vehicle being impounded, and your license and registration being suspended.
Not to mention, Louisiana also follows the 'No Pay No Play Law', which means uninsured drivers can't collect damage funds even if the accident isn't their fault.
Unfortunately, many hit-and-run drivers are never found, making it extremely tough on homeowners who have someone wreck into their home and flee.
Filing a claim for property damage to your home due to a hit-and-run driver can lead to an increase in your rate or a policy non-renewal. With that in mind, it's understandable why a Baton Rouge homeowner is frustrated after someone wrecked into her home Friday night and drove off.

Sarilyn Johnson Carter told WBRZ someone drove a vehicle into her guest bedroom and now shes stuck with paying for the damage.
It’s going to affect my pocket because any time you have somebody do something like a hit and run and they don’t take any accountability or responsibility for what they did it’s awful.
No one was occupying the room at the time, but shockingly, Carter says she didn't hear the car crash into her home. She found out the next morning when her neighbors notified her.
This also isn't the first time a careless driver has wrecked into her home. Carter explains that their is an ongoing speeding issue in her neighborhood putting everyone, and their homes at risk.
"In the past, we had two other incidents where people were speeding down the street or involved into another accident with another car where they were almost thrown into the yard."
Carter filed a police report, and pieces of the vehicle were found in her yard. Officers searched for a serial number on the pieces they found, hoping to give them a lead on the vehicle or driver. Unfortunately, it sounds like like that wasn't the case.
Now Carter hopes the driver will turn themselves in or that someone's security camera has footage in the Bogan Walk area.
