An absolutely heartbreaking incident happened over the weekend. A four-year-old Louisiana has died after finding a loaded gun and shooting himself in the chest, Brusly police said on Sunday.

Officers responded to the scene in the Bordeaux Street and Orleans Quarters Drive area around 8:40 am on Sunday, September 1.

The West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office said the four-year-old found the gun in his father's truck when the adult stepped out to adjust his trailer.

According to the Brusly Police Department, the child was able to get the holstered weapon from a vehicle's glove box.

The child was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital in Baton Rouge where he was pronounced dead.

The identity of the child has not been released.

The Brusly Police Department is leading the investigation. It is not clear yet if an arrest will be made.
