Video Shows Parent Involved In New Iberia High Fight With Students
An incident at New Iberia Senior High School resulted in a parent being handcuffed after sneaking past faculty and fighting with students in the hallway.
KATC reports New Iberia Police arrested 37-year-old Sabrina Silas following an altercation on campus Wednesday morning. She was booked with cruelty to a juvenile, disturbing the peace, and unlawful disruption of the operation of a school.
What Police And The School District Are Saying
The Iberia Parish School System sent an email to families saying a parent on campus became involved in an altercation between students. The district said staff responded immediately, the parent was removed, and New Iberia Police took the individual into custody.
Superintendent Heath Hulin told KATC the behavior will not be tolerated and said that, in addition to legal action, it can result in a ban from all school campuses and school- or district-sponsored activities.

Update: Silas No Longer Listed As In Custody
As of a Friday morning check, KATC reports that Silas is no longer in custody, according to Iberia Parish Jail records, but she still faces the charges listed in the report.
Public Reaction: “Mama Bear” Vs. “Handle It The Right Way”
On social media, many commenters argued this is what happens when bullying is not addressed, while others said adults should never physically enter student conflict, even when emotions are high.
Of course, this leads to a larger conversation about campus security, discipline, and what parents expect schools to do when a child reports bullying.
We will update this story if any additional details are released by investigators or the school system.
