Video Shows Louisiana Youth Baseball Teams Running After Nearby Gunfire
A frightening moment unfolded during youth baseball games in East Baton Rouge Parish when gunfire erupted nearby, sending young players, coaches, and families scrambling for safety.
The shooting happened around noon Saturday (March 7), on Old Hermitage Parkway near General Jackson Avenue in the Gardere area of Baton Rouge.
That location sits within earshot of multiple youth sports complexes, including BREC’s Hartley/Vey Park at Gardere and nearby Traction Sports, where youth baseball and softball games were underway during a busy spring weekend.
Game Cameras Capture Chaotic Moments
One of the most unsettling aspects of the incident is that several games were being recorded on “GameChanger” cameras used by families to stream and review youth games.
In one of the videos, two shots can be heard in the distance followed by someone asking, “What is happening?”
About 13 seconds later, more shots ring out.
That’s when the video shows young players suddenly scattering across the field, unsure where to go as adults, including coaches and umpires, quickly run alongside them to get off the field.
Another video shared on social media by Facebook user Kasey Hoffman appears to capture the same incident from a different field nearby. She said the footage came from her child’s 10U team GameChanger stream.
Hoffman wrote that watching the video later made her heart drop after learning what had happened and seeing the children running for their lives.

One Person Dead Following Shooting
According to the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, a man was shot on Old Hermitage Parkway during the incident.
Deputies say the victim was transported to a hospital in serious condition but later died from his injuries.
Investigators say they are still working to identify the man and notify family members. Authorities believe he may have been homeless.
Families React To Scary Moment
While the shooting did not happen directly on the fields, the proximity to youth games created a terrifying situation for families and children attending the games.
Multiple angles of the moment have now surfaced online, showing just how quickly players and adults reacted once the gunfire started.
