One of the biggest business rumors in Louisiana just got a little more interesting.

According to multiple reports, a private jet belonging to SpaceX founder Elon Musk landed at Lafayette Regional Airport around 1:40 p.m. Thursday after departing Austin, Texas.

The arrival was first spotted by a social media account that tracks Musk's aircraft and was later confirmed by The Acadiana Advocate.

It remains unknown whether Musk himself was on board the flight.

Still, the timing of the visit is raising plenty of eyebrows across Acadiana.

SpaceX Reportedly Closing In On Louisiana Deal

The aircraft's arrival comes as reports continue to indicate that Louisiana is in the final stages of negotiating a deal that would bring SpaceX operations to Vermilion Parish.

According to The Acadiana Advocate, Gov. Jeff Landry's administration is believed to be finalizing an agreement that would allow SpaceX to establish a spaceport on approximately 130,000 acres of coastal land near Pecan Island.

Neither SpaceX nor the governor's office has publicly confirmed the project, and both have declined to comment on ongoing negotiations.

However, sources familiar with the discussions told the publication that state officials are working to streamline permitting so construction could move quickly once an agreement is finalized.

Those same sources say an official announcement could come within the next two weeks.

Hunters Recently Reported Losing Longtime Leases

Speculation surrounding the potential SpaceX project intensified earlier this week after KPEL reported that longtime hunting leaseholders on land managed by the Vermilion Corporation had unexpectedly lost access to property near Pecan Island.

Several leaseholders said they received little or no explanation after holding the leases for years.

The affected property is believed to overlap with the same area reportedly being considered for a future SpaceX development, though officials have not confirmed any connection.

The reports have fueled widespread discussion throughout South Louisiana, particularly among hunters, landowners and residents wondering what a project of this size could mean for the region.

Could South Louisiana Become Home To SpaceX?

If the reported agreement moves forward, it would represent one of the largest economic development projects Louisiana has pursued in years.

A SpaceX presence could bring significant investment, infrastructure improvements and new jobs to coastal Louisiana while also reshaping a large portion of Vermilion Parish.

For now, though, many of the details remain unconfirmed.

What is confirmed is that Elon Musk's aircraft made a stop in Lafayette at a time when reports suggest Louisiana and SpaceX are closer than ever to reaching a deal.

Whether the visit was simply a coincidence or connected to the negotiations remains unknown, but it has certainly intensified speculation across Acadiana.

We'll continue following developments as more information becomes available.
