‘Life’s tough, get a helmet': Candace Owens Goes Viral for Being ‘Too Pregnant’ for Critics
Conservative commentator Candace Owens recently made headlines during her appearance on Turning Point USA's Live Free Tour at the University at Albany. When questioned about how her presence on the campus might affect trans students, Owens, who is eight months pregnant, responded, "Life's tough, get a helmet, man, I'm too pregnant for this."
The moment swiftly went viral. While some in the audience audibly cheered her on, others looked on, seemingly in shock or disbelief. Later, Owens took to X, a social media platform formerly known as Twitter, to share the clip. Her post, which has since been viewed over 3 million times, included a candid caption: "I am over 8 months pregnant with two toddlers at home. If you are a 20-year-old adult who feels 'actively victimized' by my standing on stage to speak about social and economic conservatism, it is because your parents failed you, entirely. It is not my job to coddle adults."
Supporters lauded Owens' comments, with many praising her courage and straightforwardness. One commented, "You are brave, Candace!" while another mentioned the need for more "straight talk" like hers.
However, the clip also drew its fair share of criticism. Detractors voiced concerns, with one stating that Owens should perhaps relearn public speaking and engage in civil discourse without resorting to "nasty quips." Others made more direct jabs at the commentator, criticizing her approach and past controversies.
This isn't the first time Owens has faced criticism for her views, especially those regarding the trans community. She was recently suspended from YouTube due to anti-LGBTQ+ remarks on her podcast and has faced demonetization on the platform for violating policies related to misgendering trans individuals.
As of this report, both Owens and the University at Albany have been approached by Newsweek for further comments on the incident.
