SCOTT, La. (KMDL-FM) - An overturned truck transporting acid has caused a road in Scott to close while hazmat crews transfer its cargo.

The vehicle is a tractor-trailer carrying acid. As a result, assistance was sought from the Lafayette Hazardous Materials Unit.

Thankfully, authorities say the driver escaped safely before the firefighters' arrival.
While no leaks have been detected, the transfer of the acid to another vehicle will take several hours.
The Scott Police Department says the accident will force the closure of the road for most of the day, and they advise motorists to use alternate routes in the interim.
