Cruise Line Popular with Gulf Coast Cruisers Confirms Fatalities
(KMDL-FM) Gulf Coast cruise fans, you know the folks that like to set sail from New Orleans, Louisiana, and Galveston, Texas know that this time of year can be a bit of a crap shoot as far as the Gulf is concerned. For most of the year, the blue waters that lap the beaches of Texas and Louisiana are very gentle and as smooth as glass.

Part of the adventure for guests on both the Carnival Mardi Gras and the Carnival Elation was a stop at the new $600 million private Bahamas resort Celebration Key on Bahama Island. The resort is owned and operated by Carnival. Like many cruise lines, Carnival uses this "private" resort as a stop on many of its Caribbean Cruises.
Which Cruise Lines Own and Operate What Private Islands and Resorts?
Disney Cruise line has a private island called Castaway Cay. Royal Caribbean has the Perfect Day at CocoCay in the Bahamas and Labadee in Hati as their private stops. Half Moon Cay is operated by Holland America Lines. Norwegian offers fun on Great Stirrup Cay and also Harvest Caye. And the Princes Cruise line has a private resort island called Princess Cays.

Last week, there was a major brawl during a Perfect Day at CocoCay, some 30 guests were involved. But this weekend's tragedy appear to be less "cruise related" and more "situational". The reason we say that is both guests who were involved in the tragedies at Celebration Key were in their 70s.
One guest was snorkeling and experienced a medical emergency. Another guest was found unresponsive in a resort swimming pool. The male victim was age 79, the female victim was 74. The two incidents are thought to be unrelated but the Royal Bahamas Police Force is investigating.
