Iggy Azalea Sued by American Express for $300,000 of Overdue Charges
Iggy Azalea may have rapped about being fancy but the lifestyle doesn't come for free. The Australian rapper reportedly owes a large amount in overdue charges to American Express.
According to a report from TMZ, court documents reveal the credit card company is taking Iggy to court over a $300,000 statement, which, according to American Express, is $250,000 more than the rapper's limit. The company is seeking the full amount, plus legal fees.
Although Iggy's debut album The New Classic went platinum, the rapper hasn't put out a new album in over two years. Her follow up album, Digital Distortion, was originally scheduled to release on June 30 but has gone through multiple delays.
In early June, Iggy spoke about the issue, and revealed she had no idea when the project would see the light of day. "At first, everybody at my label was like, 'June 2, June 2,'" she said in a now-deleted Snapchat video.
“And I was like cool," she continued." So I told everybody that. But then they were like, ‘No we changed our mind, lets put the pre-order up on June 2.’ So I was like okay, cool that seems fair. What’s my album date going to be? And they were like, ‘June 30.’ So I did a bunch of interviews on TV the day that my single dropped with Anitta, and it seemed like all the reporters knew the date, June 30.”
Since Iggy's comments, the rapper hasn't put out any new music, but did reveal Azealia Banks would be appearing on the upcoming album.
