Something that routinely happens in Lafayette, makes an interesting sound Tuesday morning near our radio station at 1749 Bertrand Dr. The strange sound, as we found out, has a totally logical reason for being done.

We could hear and see the same thing tomorrow.

LUS Utilities will routinely let a little gas blow out of the pipes according to their post on social media.

Their post on social media had the following to say:

In case you're wondering what that sound is, a LUS contractor is conducting a gas flaring event at the Doc. Bonin Power Plant on Walker Road today, Tuesday, October 8, and possibly tomorrow, Wednesday, October 9. They are flaring the gas in the LUS pipeline in order to perform scheduled maintenance.
• Duration of Flaring: one to two days, daylight hours only
• Type of Gas: Natural gas
