Louisiana State Police has announced a travel alert and the closure of I-10 eastbound at I-49 today due to a tanker reportedly carrying hazardous materials.

I-10 Eastbound at I-49 Closing Due to Overturned Tanker

According to LSP -

"At approximately 11:00 a.m. I-10 eastbound at I-49 will be closed due to an overturned tanker on I-10 eastbound at milepost 139 (Grosse Tete) that contains hazardous materials. I-10 eastbound traffic will be diverted to I-49 northbound to US Hwy 190 eastbound. This is anticipated to be an extended recovery process. Troopers are urging motorists to utilize an alternate route as crews work to clear the scene."

State Police did not mention if there has been any leakage of the hazardous materials at the scene.
