Evangeline Parish Animal Rescue Owner Sells Own Truck to Fund Facility

(Ville Platte, LA) - One man who owns a pet rescue sold his personal vehicle in order to raise funds for his facility. Matthew Baker runs Heroes Everywhere Animal Rescue in Ville Platte, and he needed funds for the animals, so he sold his personal truck.

Baker says the good news is that he got a little more than he was asking for the vehicle, since a friend bought it. It's a tough time in this economy for everyone, including rescue shelters. Funds are tight, and Baker did what he thought was best for the pets.

Heroes Everyone Animal Shelter Needs Volunteers in Ville Platte

Baker says he will also gladly take any volunteer help he can get. While there are facilities in Mamou and Ville Platte, he says there are so many animals in need right now.

Baker shared with us that he got into animal rescue after they discovered a dog who ended up having seven puppies, and he and his mother started to care for the dog and the puppies. It began as them fostering the dogs, but then they began to accept other animals in need.

Now that they have their rescue up and running, there have been situations where they have found other animals who have been abandoned. He says people have also contacted them when they have come into contact with other strays.

Baker says they could really use help getting more open space with fencing for the 40-plus dogs, and he says they will take any voluntary help they can get. As we all know, shelters throughout Acadiana are constantly getting new animals into their facilities. In addition, we also know the price of everything has increased dramatically in the last five years.
