June 14th is also the anniversary of the establishment of the US Army in 1775. According to Wikipedia, President Woodrow Wilson established June 14th as Flag Day in 1916. The city of Appleton, Wisconsin lays claim to the longest running Flag Day parade. They've held one every  year since 1950. The first reported Flag Day parade was held in Fairfield, Washington. Records are unclear as to whether it was in 1909, or 1910. At any rate, happy Flag day! Wave your colors proudly!
