Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser was in Lafayette yesterday to announce a grant for UL Lafayette to increase economic development in the seafood industry worth $250,000.

The grant money is coming from a program of the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board.

They are also receiving funding from the USDA Rural Business Development Agency.

U-L researchers will conduct feasibility studies, develop business and community economic development plans, and establish leadership and entrepreneurship training to assist small and emerging businesses in Vermilion, Iberia, and St. Mary parishes.

Seven newly-added parishes in the southeastern sector of coastal Louisiana will also be part of the economic expansion efforts.
