Elton Hercules John's struggles with addiction are chronicled in the recent biopic "Rocketman." He celebrated 29 years of sobriety on July 29th, 2019. ABC News reports, Sir Elton posted a photo of his 29 year medallion on his Twitter page. He said in the tweet, "29 years ago today, I was a broken man. I finally summoned up the courage to say three words that would change my life: 'I need help.''

Elton told the Times of London the new song he co-wrote for the "Lion King" remake was actually about his journey through sobriety. He went on to say, the life changing event that moved him to seek help was the death of teenage AIDS victim Ryan White in 1990. Congratulations, Sir Elton! Thank you for all the wonderful music.
