I was working in a flooring store twenty something years ago. A man pulled up in a delapidated pickup. He had hair to his shoulders, and dirty coveralls. My first thought, 'This is going to be a waste of time." He was shopping for a lot of flooring, and was being cost conscious. Then, he wanted to apply for credit. His credit was what retail people refer to as "Solid Gold." He bought a lot of stuff & I made a nice commission. Shame on me! The late Led Zeppelin drummer, John Bonham, once put a rude car salesman in his place. He drove an expensive vehicle through a showroom window, and instructed the salesman to have it repaired in time for him to take delivery the next day. I recently walked into an optical store, wearing shorts, with my shirt not tucked in. I hadn't shaved in a couple days. The young man who helped me was polite, but didn't seem to think I'd be willing, or able, to spend much money. I've been wearing glasses since kindergarten, progressive lenses for the past 23 years. I shop for glasses knowing it's going to be very expensive. Fortunately, my employers offer a great benefit package, including optical. The young man was "upselling", which is his job, but kept talking about price. He seemed surprised when I ordered "All the bells & whistles" without batting an eye. Never judge a book by its cover...
