Do You Know What This Story Is Really About? [OPINION]
- The Atlanta Falcons' new Mercedes-Benz Stadium, set to open this month, includes a Chick-fil-A in its concession area.
- 7 of the 8 Atlanta Falcons' home games (regular season games) this year are to be played on Sunday.
- Chick-fil-A isn't open on Sunday.
This is the general outline of several stories that are floating around on the internet today, and people are losing their minds.
"HAHAHA!! They won't sell much chicken if they aren't open on Sunday!" "Who was the idiot who thought this was a good idea?" "Well, that backfired, didn't it?" were just some of the comments on the post. At first glance, it seemed like a dumb idea to me, too. Why would a multi-million-dollar-selling-company set itself up for failure? Well, obviously, they wouldn't.
This story isn't about the Atlanta Falcons' new stadium. It's not about Chick-fil-A.
It only took me about 25 seconds to search for the Atlanta Mercedes-Benz Stadium's website, and then clicked on "Events". Garth Brooks, SEC Championships, Peach Bowl (& Kickoff Games), Atlanta United soccer, and the NCAA Final Four are the events that are scheduled and the venue isn't even open yet!
What's the point of this post? In today's world of give-it-to-me-now-and-make-it-easy-for-me-to-read, few of us are reading past the headlines. Few of us are verifying information. People are sharing false, misleading, and/or fake news (I said fake news! Ha!!). Here is one very important thing to remember: just because a person has a computer and an opinion does NOT make him a journalist.
I am not a journalist. I'm just a guy with a computer and an opinion, and I am begging you to think before you share. I am begging you to read the story before you comment and/or share.
After a little research, I can rest comfortably knowing that the Chick-fil-A peeps know what they are doing.
I love Chick-fil-A and, quite honestly, I don't know many people who don't. Granted, I'm sure that they are out there, it's just that they aren't as vocal, or I totally ignored them when they told me that they didn't like Chick-fil-A. So, here's your chance to pipe up: do you like Chick-fil-A? (Why does it seem that I crave CFA most on Sundays?)
